Innovative optosensoric from Switzerland

CEDES Safety & Automation AG develops optosensoric components in Landquart (in the Rhine valley north of Chur) which ensure accident-free conditions when working with potentially dangerous machines and facilities. Whenever automatic processes need to be recorded, controlled and designed to be safer, our innovative products from Landquart are first choice.

CEDES Safety & Automation AG (CSA) is a leading provider of optosensoric components worldwide. CSA has been a 100% subsidiary of US Rockwell Automation Inc., based in Milwaukee (Wisconsin) since May 2008.  Their "Allen-Bradley" brand, safety light curtains such as GuardShield Safe 4, Micro400 or the MSR42 safety controller are produced here in Landquart.

Optosensoric in demand

Looking at modern production plants, these days it is clear that sensoric is indispensable. Intelligent sensors ensure that plant and machine controls are provided with the information needed for a safe and efficient production process.

Innovative optosensoric from CEDES Safety & Automation AG allows simple and safe machine operation.

User demands on manufacturers of optical sensors are increasing to the same extent as requirements on one's own economic efficiency. Concretely, this means that the sensors of today and tomorrow must be faster, more precise, sturdier and ideally even more cost-effective.

Ready for all markets and challenges

CSA has been rising successfully to meet the increasing challenges emanating from the economic environment for years now. With a comprehensive range of products, CSA is able to meet the most diverse demands of the global market. Future-oriented segments such as powder coating, storage systems, medical technology, printing machines, paper cutters and machine tools are only a few examples of where the optosensoric high-tech of CSA is used.

Our products are also ideally suited for growing markets such as Asia or Central and South America, where not much importance has yet been placed on safety technology. This is about to change soon.“ Dr. Manfred Stein

The "small one" which can do more

One of the most compact safety light curtains worldwide:  Allen-Bradley Guardshield Micro400 - with technology and know-how from Landquart/CH

The safety light curtain GuardShield Micro400 is a top-seller for the CSA company, with a cross-section of 15 x 20 mm. No wonder: It is among the most compact of safety light curtains worldwide and is available with finger resolution in the highest safety category 4 (PL e acc. 13894-1).

With the most compact of designs, the installation of a Micro400 gives machine design engineers all the freedom they requires, and not only for new plants. Even retrofitting is easily done.“ Dr. Manfred Stein

Another top performer is the GuardShield Safe4. With the built-in laser alignment system ILAS, the customer receives a product that is instantly ready for use. The high range of 30 m also allows the safeguarding of large danger zones.

Protection people and material

The compact allrounder: Allen-Bradley safety controller MSR42

The quick reaction time of a few milliseconds allows the installation of the emitter and receiver light curtain near the hazard point. This results in shorter mounting and handling times for the operator and more possibilities in designing machines and plants.

In combination with a MSR42 safety controller, the Micro400 can be adapted to a variety of tasks, as desired. Besides the connecting of a light curtain, there is also the parallel evaluation of additional safety components integrated into the safety controller.  In this way, a MSR42 provides cost and space-saving monitoring with light curtains along with emergency stop buttons or door switches.

Robustness in a sensitive world

More and more applications must be safeguarded in view of increasing automation in industry. CSA has responded to this need with solutions which have been developed in Landquart by highly-qualified experts from various fields. There is a growing trend towards the increasing use of optosensoric in "harsh environments". Sensors of the latest generation must be able to withstand smoke, steam and water, while guaranteeing absolute reliability.

We feel at home in this environment of demands and challenges and will soon introduce one of the most sturdy products of optosensoric ever made to our customers."
